Today I hike a section of the Migration birds trail, between Maarn and Langbroek in the Netherlands. First of all, I go back a bit on the trail, because last time I skipped nature reserve the Koeheuvels (Cow Hills). I’m glad about that in retrospect, because it turns out that the Koeheuvels and another trip off the trail, to watchtower De Kaap, are the most enjoyable part of the hike. Are you curious? I’ll tell you all about it.

Here you will find all blog posts in a row. The most recent post is at the top.
Wooden shoes trail: Stoetwegen trail – ⭐⭐⭐
Wooden shoes trails are fun! I’ve already picked out the next one. In this blog just a short description of the trail (a trail shortener 😉), a few photos and a simple sketch to illustrate. No need for a hiking map, the info on the website is clear enough. This time a report on the Stoetwegen trail.
Wooden shoes trail: Baanbreker trail – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wooden shoe trails are fun! I have already chosen another trail. In this blog just a short description of the trail (a trail shortener 😉 ), a few photos and a simple sketch to illustrate. No need for a hiking map, the info on the website is clear enough. This time a report of the Baanbreker trail.
Southern waterline trail: Heusden – ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
A great round trip around and through fortified town of Heusden in the Netherlands, with as many as three beautiful windmills and picturesque streets. I then walk back to the Zeedijk from the previous hike via Oudheusden. This part follows the Southern waterline trail through the village of Doeveren and along the Bergsche Maas river back to Heusden.
Migration birds trail: from Soesterberg to Maarn – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Snow! Totally unexpectedly, I hike through a winter wonderland today! I start in Soesterberg and go via the Den Treek Henschoten estate past the pyramid of Austerlitz and via the town with the same name I continue through the forest to Maarn.
Southern waterline trail: from Waspik via Waalwijk to Oudheusden – ⭐⭐⭐
This time again two sections of the Southern waterline trail in one blog, due to two early discontinued hikes. During the first part from Waspik to Waalwijk, it became a water ballet. During the second part from Waalwijk to Oudheusden, I got a headache on the way and unfortunately did not have asprin with me. Who knows, maybe I will return for a second chance.
Southern waterline trail: from Oosterhout via Geertruidenberg to Waspik – ⭐⭐⭐
In this blog, I describe two sections of the Southern waterline trail in one. In September 2022, I hiked the 1st part from Oosterhout to Geertruidenberg. A few weeks later, I hiked the 2nd part from Geertruidenberg to Waspik.
Wooden shoes trail: Leidschehoeven trail – ⭐⭐⭐
Wooden shoes trails are fun! The next trail is already up. This time it’s a slightly longer story (a trail extender 😉), quite a few photos and a simple sketch to illustrate. No need for a hiking map, the info on the website is clear enough. This time a report of the Leidschehoeven trail.
Migration birds trail: from Hollandsche Rading to Soesterberg – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
It has been about a year since I hiked a section of the Migration birds trail in the Netherlands. It is about time for another hike on this beautiful trail. Today, I will visit the towns of Lage Vuursche, Soest and Soesterberg, with many paths through the forest and along the heatherlands in bloom. At the last minute, I will also walk through the Soesterberg airbase park.
Southern Waterline trail: from Spinolaschans to Oosterhout – ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Today I start yet another section of the Zuiderwaterliniepad. Last time, I had saved the round trip over the Spinolaschans for this time. This entrenchment is well hidden along the N285 road between Breda-Noord and Terheijden. After the Spinolaschans, I walk along the north side of Breda and Teteringen. I then continue my way through the Oosterhout forest and across the Vrachelse Heide until I eventually reach the centre of Oosterhout.
