My expectations of this part of the Migration birds trail, between Amerongen and Rhenen in the Netherlands, are high. After all, it promises to be a forest hike and I love that. But the places where fewer trees grow turn out to be the most wonderful. It would be the most beautiful part of the Migration birds trail so far!
wonderful hike
Wooden shoes trail: Goilberdinger trail – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wooden shoes trails are fun! The next trail is already here. In this blog just a short description of the trail (a trail shortener 😉 ), a few photos and a simple sketch to illustrate. No need for a hiking map, the info on the wooden shoe trails website is clear enough. This time a report of the Goilberdinger trail.
Southern waterline trail: Heusden – ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
A great round trip around and through fortified town of Heusden in the Netherlands, with as many as three beautiful windmills and picturesque streets. I then walk back to the Zeedijk from the previous hike via Oudheusden. This part follows the Southern waterline trail through the village of Doeveren and along the Bergsche Maas river back to Heusden.
Migration birds trail: from Soesterberg to Maarn – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Snow! Totally unexpectedly, I hike through a winter wonderland today! I start in Soesterberg and go via the Den Treek Henschoten estate past the pyramid of Austerlitz and via the town with the same name I continue through the forest to Maarn.
Southern Waterline trail: from Halsteren to Steenbergen (and Blauwe Sluis to Fort Henricus) – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I divided the trail of the Southern Waterline between Halsteren and Steenbergen in the Netherlands into two parts, so that I could make a side trip to Blauwe Sluis. This place is outside the trail, but worthwhile for a visit because of the longest picnic bench and fishing jetty in the Netherlands, as well as bird watching hut de Roode Weel. The first part goes from Halsteren to the outskirts of Steenbergen and the second part from Blauwe Sluis to Fort Henricus and town of De Heen.
Great rivers trail: from Nijmegen to Duivelsberg – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Today is the big day: I will complete my first long-distance hiking trail in the Netherlands. Well, the Dutch part, because the Great rivers trail goes even further into Germany towards Kleve. I start in Nijmegen and leave the great rivers behind me. I seek higher ground in the fantastic Berg and Dal region. My finish line is at the Duivelsberg (Devil’s Mountain), where long distance trail 16 the Roman Limespad also ends.
Great rivers trail: from Leerdam to Beesd – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It is April 12 (2021) and it is my birthday. What could be more fun than going for a hike on your birthday! This time, I am going to continue my way along the Great rivers trail in the Netherlands. I have now arrived in Leerdam and today, I will mostly walk along the Linge river until the town of Beesd. I will pass through several picturesque villages in the Betuwe region. And will I finally have the chance to see blossoms in the fruit trees?
Migration birds trail: from Het Schouw to Schellingwoude in Amsterdam – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In March 2021, I will return to the Migration birds trail for the third time this month. Today I will hike from Het Schouw to Schellingwoude in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Some hike it was! I pass through small towns with sweet little houses in the Waterland region, I have an unpleasant encounter with a goose, the weather is going all over the place, the birds sound like music to my ears and the journey takes a little longer than expected. In short, a great adventure. The comparison with a fairytale is easily made…
Migration birds trail: from Zaanse Schans to Den Ilp – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
After a two-month break, I continued with the long-distance trail the Trekvogelpad (Migration birds trail) at the end of February 2021. Via a small detour through Zaanse Schans, I pick up the official trail just outside Wormer. After this I follow the trail through the Engewormer polder, the Jagersveld and the Oostzanerveld to the Twiske nature reserve and recreational area. Halfway through the Twiske, I stop my hike and take the bus back home from Den Ilp.
Great rivers trail: from Ammerstol to Nieuwpoort – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This time, the hike of the Great rivers trails starts in Ammerstol and continues along the Lek to Schoonhoven. I make an extra detour through the historic city centre of Schoonhoven and then take the ferry to the other side of the Lek. Finally, I walk along the still intact city ramparts of Nieuwpoort.
