Butterfly illustrations are a lot of fun to make. There are so many possibilities in drawing or painting butterflies.

My idea is to make the butterfly in the real colours once and then the same butterfly with different colours. I also like it when there is a cast shadow to be seen, so it looks like the butterfly is really sitting on the paper.

So far I have made the three designs below. I want to make more butterfly illustrations in the future.

  • The blue and yellow butterflies are made with Winsor & Newton Cotman and Prima watercolour paints finished with coloured pencil, on Hahnemühle Britannia 300 grams hot pressed watercolour paper. The size of the paper is 26 x 18 cm. Price: € 30,- per illustration, including VAT and excluding shipping costs.
  • The coloured butterflies are made with Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolour paints, on Hahnemühle Britannia 300 grams hot pressed watercolour paper. The size of the paper is A4 (21 x 30 cm). Price: € 40,- including VAT and excluding shipping costs.
